I'm going to this gig and I cannot wait. ^^ I have tickets booked for seating - a shame, but I probably wouldn't be anywhere close to the stage if I were in the standing area. I'm too short and would probably end up with a broken nose. xD

Another problem is my father's taking me, and my friend is going who dislikes Manson. Oh well. That won't ruin my night in the slightest, even if I can't sing along and have to seem shocked at the lyrics. :)

I'm *probably* going to this date but I haven't got a ticket yet. I actually want to go to all the UK shows but it's just a case of getting the money together. I only have a ticket for Manchester so far.

Oh and Sean I'll be going on my own as well...lol.

Just thought I would give you a heads up on the dress code advisement of the NEC.

In an article for the Birmingham Post (one of the newspapers I work for), the advisement is:

In the 50s, at the birth of what became known
as rock ’n ‘roll, seats were torn up by fans as
Bill Haley and the Comets played Rock Around
The Clock in cinemas and concert halls.
In the 60s, thousands of girls risked physical
injury in the crush as they screamed, swooned
and fainted at a glimpse of Elvis or The Beatles.
Fast forward to the 70s and 80s and cleaners
in clubs and music venues looked forward with
trepidation to clearing up after a Sex Pistols gig.
Enter the new millennium and the
“noughties”.
No smoking in arenas. No standing up. No
rushing forward to the stage and creating a
bone-crunching crush.
Sex and drugs and rock ’n’ roll? Out of the
question.
And while we’re at it, no studded belts, no
trouser chains, no dog collars. Even if you are
going to watch Alice Cooper and Motorhead at
the NEC.
While the stars on stage can wear more or
less whatever they like in keeping with their
chosen image, fans going along to their
November 10 concert had beware – if you’re
sporting any of the above paraphernalia or
other items dedicated rockers wouldn’t be seen
without, be prepared for them to be confiscated
at the door.
It is, according to the NEC, a policy that’s
been in place for some time and it’s all in the
name of health and safety.
“To ensure the comfort and well-being of our
visitors, the NEC group does not permit any
item to be taken into the venue that could be
considered a potential safety risk to any member
of the public,” said a spokesman.
The NEC group advises that “if someone is
in doubt as to whether an item may be considered
to be a health and safety risk, they should
leave it at home or in their vehicle”. So no more
cigarette lighters being held up in the air during
Barry Manilow concerts then. And thank
goodness some may say.
The restriction on dress is but one of a long line of measures altering the experience of
music fans. Arguably, the smoking ban has had
an effect on the gig-goers’ experience especially
those who may have substituted tobacco
with another product.
Similarly, regular attendees are now
encouraged to protect their hearing with ear
plugs (raising the question of why they’re there
in the first place).
It hardly seems in keeping with its freespirited,
anti-authority image, so has rock gone
soft and sanitised?
“We hold our own events, and public safety
has to be at the heart of what we do,” said
Birmingham-based Kerrang! radio’s brand
manager Andy Price. “In that sense we can see
the NEC’s point. However, it’s a shame when it
gets to this stage.”
It seems even to have got to those we pay to
see perform. The most rebellious many of them
get now is to flout the smoking ban by lighting
up on stage.
Unfortunately, we can probably expect more
of the same in these caring, sharing, times of
safety.
And the future for the rock fan? Mr Price was
not hopeful. “It seems to be the way of everything.
They’ll be banning alcohol next.”

I know, it's nuts but if it's the security firm I think it is, then they are fascists. Plus, the last time I saw Manson at the NEC I had to put in my watch chain incase it caused damage - a WATCH CHAIN FFS!

Nope, stuck it in my pocket. I wasn't giving that baby over to them.

They are good in that they will say you can't wear that, can you put it in your pocket for the evening - I've never had anything taken off me before.

Waiting for my tickets to arrive, according to ticketmaster they'll be delivered anytime up to 14 days before the event.

I think they're set, but I'm not too sure.
Getting there early wouldn't harm you, though. Unless you froze and caught something.

I ordered tickets off a ticket tout website in September but I never got a confirmation e-mail so I ordered them again.I didn't get any confirmation from that one either so I gave up hope.Then yesterday two sets of seated tickets arrived in the mail.I'll definitely be there on Sunday.
Not sure what I'm gonna do with the extra ticket though.

Yeah, Methodman's right - tried to take my digi cam in '03 at the NEC and they wouldn't allow me to bring it in - had to check it in to some cloakroom place. Then half way home after the show realised that I forgotten to pick it up dammit :( thankfully they returned it in post.
Apparantly (this is what they said back then), Manson doesn't allow digicams in - even the small ones. Of course mobile phones they can't stop, but still. Maybe the policy changed, but really it's more up to the manson's management than the venue.
Hopefully meet up with some of u guys later! :D

Maybe a case of asking the venue beforehand and then if they say Manson doesn't allow, then say, but no other venue on the tour has had a problem - then they will have to say if it's a venue policy, which personally I think it is.

Can't do a full report really because there wasn't too big a difference, setlist the usual 15 songs, came on about 9.30PM, after Vampire he said something like "Give it up for my bassist Rob Holliday...he comes from Birmingham but he does drugs all over the world!". Filmed a bit but not sure how it turned out.

Good, but could of been WAY better. Was extremely disappointed in the crowd. Really was. Let down the night for me and my mate. Was good to see you RX, sorry if i seemed bit wasted, said earlier i'd been on the mansinthe!
But yeh manson was amazing, the crowd was total pants. I tried my best to get everyone into it, by screaming on the quiet parts and stuff, but to no avail. Seemed like mostly kids going for heart shaped glasses or summat. But was great night, crowd really really put it down for me. Oh i just coughed up a huge chuck of confetti. ha. off to sleep. Got work at 8. argh. l8erz.

bang on, the crowd sucked! Manson acknowledged it 'why so quiet Birmingham??? is it because i'm not showing you enough love????'. Pity really, tho he did a brilliant set - the band where real tight and his voice sounded amazing - but the crowd just didn't respond that well tho, however I'm sure they appreciated Manson...just in a reserved way.

Was great seeing you, however briefly Deacon ... and RX, Ditame, psychological and everyone else! was good chatting to you all!

Tim good meeting you, and a big shout out to psychological, Norsefire and his sister, RX, Dave and anyone else I said hello to.

Birmingham is sadly notorious for it's difficult crowds but where I was stood - next to Tim, I had LOADS of fun - I have neck ache, back ache and my throat kills, plus I get little sleep last night, but it's worth it.

Such a better show than the last time I saw Manson back in 2003 at the NEC in November. Manson was much more on the ball and into the show.

Anyway, I'm writing a review for my newspapers online entertainment magazine, so I'll post a link to it later.

I have to agree about the crowd... It was the same in Glasgow.

Unless you were in the middle right at the front, there was no jumping, little cheering, and little singing along.

I actually was held down by 2 people because I was trying to jump. they clearly didnt want to get an elbow in their face... IF YOU WANT TO BE RESERVED AT A FECKING CONCERT THEN GET TO THE BACK!!!! THESE GUYS WERE RIGHT AT THE FRONT!!! AND WANTED TO SIT BACK AND ENJOY! IDIOTS!

anyway, i enjoyed myself... no shouts for an encore, which is typical for scottish gigs... But for god sake, Beck, Kings of Leon and Mortiis were probably 3x more lively! shocking really.

Yeah, saying all that - I did see some jumping and a bit of other crowd action stuff a bit nearer the stage...but clearly not enough.
Would have loved to have made it to the barrier like Shaun did (good photos and pill/tongue stud btw), and thanks to queuing a little found a sweet spot with only about 2/3 people between us and the barrier without having to push in. Sadly those people where wankers especially one tall fuck who before anything happened onstage couldn't stand still and kept on wiggling whilst we're all waiting for the support act and Manson to come on .... causing alot of us to get pissed off at his needless faffing around antics, and mixed in with his height and non-transparent head made him the worst person to be stood behind at a gig.
Although I do thank him because we decided to spend the gig further back and more towards the center of the stage .. a real nice spot with the other 'phants around. From there, we enjoyed a great gig 8-)

It’s been four years since I last saw Manson in concert. A lot has happened - Manson had a mediocre best of album, a marriage, a divorce, a film project that has been on and off and a new album which, although mixed reviewed by fans and critics, isn’t half bad, even if it is different.

Supporting Manson on his whistle stop tour of the UK, were Turbonegro. I kept meaning to give them a listen before I went to the gig, but could never find the time. If it weren’t for the fact I was meeting friends I would have quite happily have missed the cliché lewd comments and the single guitar solo that permeated through every song. Saying that, Turbonegro got a better reception than Peaches who supported Manson back in 2003.

It wasn’t until 9.20 that Manson came on stage which signalled a shorter set but the moment the lights dimmed and Schubert’s Trio in E Flat began, the crowd started chanting ‘Manson’ and the familiar chill down my newly spiked hair appeared. I remembered why even at 31 I am still a Manson fan.

Launching into the opening track from Eat Me Drink Me – If I was Your Vampire – Manson showed a marked improvement on his performances of recent years. His voice was back on form, reminding me of tours during the promotion of 2000’s Holywood.

The next tracks were classic anthems which got the crowd – as best as any crowd in Birmingham can do – up and bouncing. Teenage angst anthem Disposable Teens was followed by mOBSCENE and then Tourniquet, which for me was a rare pleasure to hear.

Next Manson brought the crowd up another notch by getting them to chant the infamous "We hate love, we love hate" opener to Irresponsible Hate Anthem, which Manson used to highlight a recent school shooting in America, projecting a news article which again had a disillusioned teens real problems obscured by the notion that he was a god hating Mansonite. It’s strange seeing that story even as a fan because in this day and age, Manson is still seen by some as the poster boy for hate.

Manson followed this with Are You The Rabbit from the new album and then began the classic Sweet Dreams but changed the ‘outro’ to Lunchbox. Another welcome change, although it was a reminder how much Manson has evolved, not only personally but with his line-up.

The Fight Song, Putting Holes In Happiness came next and then Heart Shaped Glasses, again from the new album which this time saw an old prop given a new look. A robot with the face of current squeeze Evan Rachel Wood walked on stage pushing a cart, to which Manson serenaded before pulling off the robots head and as the song ensured pulling off other body parts.

Other classics followed keeping the pace going, although Manson did on a few occasions jeer at the crowd that they were a little disappointing in comparison to London. However, in the little crowd I was in, we were jumping and screaming and raising a few devil horns.

Two encores came with The Beautiful People and The Reflecting God which is the first time I had seen it live in its entirety and then the whole sticky, sore throat, aching back and neck hanging by a thread extravaganza was over.

Barely ten to 11 and the crowd were filing out. I would have been happier seeing it at another venue and although Manson has calmed over the years, and although I wonder am I too old for this when I looked around at the younger audience, this was a good gig, this was a performer back on track. I even went back to the previously passed by merchandise stand to pick up a tour t-shirt.

Manson brought just the right blend of camp theatrics, reminiscent of Alice Cooper to the show and interlaced it still with enough of the dark, self-proclaimed Antichrist Superstar that has made his name.

Great gig. Not quite as good as Manchester, but still brilliant. I came from Manchester, and strangely enough someone on the train was going to the same gig, and had also been on Thursday. Strange 'eh. So if anyone saw a girl dressed as Alice, I was the guy stood next to her =P

Best part of the gig was undoubtedly Irresponsible Hate Anthem, the crowd actually seemed to react to it which was brilliant. I'm loving that Manson is speaking so much again, adds more to a gig I feel.

yeah, was a great show, really enjoyed it, was good to meet people too. met RX by chance at the begining, i got there early, and was just sat on a table having a drink, Rx was stood next to us. met emma (ditame) too there was a lot of other people stood near us too, norsefire near the sound booth, and for the first song and just before the show i think i was stood right next to tim, and mr pogo, i think.

the crowd was pretty shit, but after i got nearly to the railings, there was a bit more action. during rock is dead, at least 20 people just fell down like dominoes.

mobscene was really messed up by manson, i didnt even think he knew what he was doing with that song, he missed out a complete verse, and started the bridge way too early. the band kept on going.

was good to see the shout out to rob too. the band were spot on.

wish i coulda hung around with phant people a little more though.

First time seeing Manson, and really enjoyed the show. Set list, theatricals, everything. His voice seemed to sound a lot better than what it appears in some of the more recent YouTube clips, so he's still got what it takes as far as I'm concerned.

I was stood about 10-15ft, ish, away from the stage, towards the left hand side. So pretty close, we could have moved in more quite easily but my friends reckoned we'd get crushed.

Met Rx, albeit in a drunken state; hung around with him early on for the most part, support act and all, couple of songs, then he went to get closer to the stage. Regret not going with you Rx, those were some awesome clips!

I got told off for smoking in the crowd, which is fair enough - if it wasn't for the fact that people were smoking weed in front of us and getting away with it! Could anyone else smell that?

People here may have noticed me, I was the slim one, blonde hair, spiked out with copious amounts of hairspray, leather jacket, skinny jeans, and red contact lenses - with a full face of make-up. I looked hawt. I'll post a pic in a bit.

I was at this show with a female friend, she was in a black jacket with a battered looking purple shoulderbag and I was just wearing a jacket, a Celebritarian shirt and black jeans. Saw one guy in a phant shirt but he was on the floor and we had to go in the seats cause she'd hurt her leg, it's not the same up there though. We spoke to someone from MM's crew, found out that apparently the venue had been kicking up a fuss because Manson wanted his amps up to something like 1,000+ and they were worried the circuits would trip and that the resulting few seconds of darkness (before someone put the lights back on - they had contractors by the 4 main circuit boxes all night apparently) consituted a health and safety risk, which is frankly stupid because what about when the lights go down during encores? Anyway, we asked if they were filming a new DVD as we'd heard about cameras at the other shows but he was pretty non-commital and just said something like "Yeah, some guys are filming" and sort of made it apparent he couldn't say what for.

I saw some guy filming ACS and the same guy on stage filming a tour crew bloke who was holding a set list, I think, at the end of the show when stuff was being cleared up.
They're definitely filming something. I only saw the one guy filming during ACS and at the end though, so either he didn't film anything else or he was out of sight for the rest.
My guess, though, is that if they are doing a DVD, they'll take one song from each show filmed or something similar.
What ever it is, hopefully it'll be a more 'real' feeling affair than GG&G.

the vids turned out real well, the music not being too loud for the mic (as what happened with most of the other vids I found on youtube). lol you can spot me clapping away during the mOBSCENE speech, the guy the on the far right .... but it seems as if we where a huge distance from the stage, yet from there it didn't seem THAT far....
Anyway, Norsefire if you find that vid of people clearing out (I remember saying hello to the cam lol) please link me up too as I'd love to see it!
That's about 25/26 vid clips from various people .. not to mention over 150 photo's lol, pretty incredible, a couple of years ago it would have been really hard to find footage of a show you went to .... and now this lol. I bet if you put all the footage together you'd get a decent amount of the show, maybe about 45 mins worth.

and then when manson came down in TBP. it was just amazing! :)

It wouldn't even fit in the boot though, we had to put seats down and everthing while he was sitting in the car swearing under his breath...he wasn't best pleased.

And you'd have thought we were clever enough to take it off the hefty piece of wood first...but no

Yeah all I wanted as the white thing and they had plenty of them, I'm sure it has tremedous sentimental value!!

I got to the barrier by like the 3rd song, spent the whole gig there.
The roadies threw a bunch of picks off the stage once the band had cleared off and I just saw it in between the grating of the barrier :P

My mate found one about 3 steps behind me too

Perou is fucking superb, he always makes manson look extra heroic.

This gig was the absolute dog's bollocks, i had the biggest boner ever. a great set, manson's voice was superb and he seemed to really enjoying himself - which gave him extra presence. skold didnt fuck up noticably (and manually applied the wah to the sweet dreams solo - good lad) not that he's crap or anything (far from it) but filling the shoes of a virtuoso like john lowery must be hard.

the theatrics and bullshit were just what the doctor ordered after the diet manson concert at the donington festival.

all in all, as i said to norsefire do pardon my blasphemy, but i thought this kicked the crap out of even the docklands show nearly 7 years ago. i feel wrong elevating it in status over a gig with the holy twiggy/john/pogo trinity, but ultimately it's true, i had a better time.

my only complaint is the set was FAR too bloody short. maybe it's because it was a long time ago but i remember the GGG concerts going on for ages...

Yeah when Twiggy came back and Skold went out it didnt really feel like the eat me drink me tour anymore. Not saying it's a bad thing....but wen he only started to play 1 or 2 songs from the album...it didnt really have that atmosphere.
