View Full Version : Do the instrumentists from Marilyn Manson really play at concerts ?

I mean does Skold really plays the guitar ? Or is it just a negative that plays ? I hope this question isn't stupid.. but I faced quite some strange questions like this and I had the impression that the band members are not really playing the instuments... I dunno', well I think that at least Ginger Fish does it but how about the others.. ?

I hope so.. but I'm not so sure.. maybe it's just me.. I watched some concerts for example RAR 2003 and there's when I put myself this question..

They all play their instruments live.
The only one who really doesn't play any instruments live or in his music videos is Manson. He does not know how to play guitar ;).
And if you ever question Pogo's playing live, there are lots of sound clips and samples in MM songs. Hell, Antichrist superstar sounds like a Nine Inch Nails album with Manson's vox to me. Keeping in mind that Trent DID record alot of the synths and guitars on that album.

He does know how to play guitar, just very very badly. He played guitar on some songs, such as coma white, on the tours for Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals.
Manson twatting his guitar aimlessly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3lgG4Rcfi4)
Of course they play. The only stuff that they don't play is the overdubs.

Pogo broke his wrist around the time that tour started, so a good number of his parts were sampled. But usually everything live really is live except a few things (like hi-hat loops) that Pogo triggers.

Yes, everything is live, and that should've been painfully obvious a la Mark Chaussee and Zim Zum.

he also does guitar on down in the park. but the way he strums makes it look fake. but by the cd version of the song it sounds like that would need two guitars to make it feel that heavy.

If u are reffering to the golden afge of grotesque song..at the end manson does pull the sax out and blows in it for couple of mins...and produces catstrophic and annoying sounds... i kinda dont like it, althought it suites the song in my opinion LOL

I thought that show was played to a backing track, if my memory serves me correctly.
But to the original question - everyone plays live except the overdubs, as has been pointed out. And Antioch - I agree with the sax, very painful to listen to but in some ways neccesary.

thats Daft if MM dosent play live. OFCOURSE HE FUCKING DOES. Twiggy used to fuck up constantly, and MM's voice declined in the years, hope he dosent end up as another Maria Callas!

It is true that Manson has been on stage with a guitar before,
but it is usually so low in the mix that it is mainly used as a visual effect.

The personal jesus tv performances with both Skold and Manson on guitar and no bassist are mimed.
He played guitar (for real) on the DTTW tour for Dried Up and Minute of Decay.

None of them plays live & Manson mimes to backing tapes ;)

Top of the Pops has consistently been mimed by all artists, really poorly.
And if nobody played their instruments, Manson may as well just go back to using a drum machine. A big reason why they got rid of it was because of how it limited their performance. There was no room for spontaneity or prolonged bridges or anything like that whatsoever, which drives certain songs like My Monkey.

That isn't actually true, as you will garner from any Youtube videos of Zim Zum or Mark (J5 is actually a machine built in a human body.) Just on the PJ videos.

They do play them live.
Not to say that they always mess up live, but here one example..

Edit again - For fucks sake man, can you NOT hear it? Not the screw up. But live, you can USUALLY tell a real performance from one that is recorded and played over a P.A.

I was joking, I know for a fact they play live as I've seen them from right up against the stage.
