Why do people think that saying "well, where I'm from" is an acceptable excuse for their ignorance?

Especially considering that these people have computers, radios, tvs, books and other such sources of information, living in bumfuck nowhere is not an excuse to know nothing.

This phenomenon is especially prevalent in the Marilyn Manson forum, where apparently it's okay to know nothing about anything, as long as you precede your ignorant comment with "Well, where I'm from..."

Living in a big city is not how I know the things I know. I went to school and paid attention in history class, for one thing. I read. I have relevant discussions with other intelligent people. When one sits on their ass, with blinders and earmuffs on, thereby freeing them of the responsibilties that come with abstract thought, I find it very hard to accept that living in their particular area had anything to do with it.

Do a little research, release yourself from your bubble, experience things. Pop in a tape from another time period, or (gasp!) genre. Read a book that wasn't written by Dr. Suess. Watch a tv show that wasn't produced by Aaron Spelling.

And for the love of all that is beautiful and respectable in this world, stop selling yourself short by assuming that living in your particular town in any way releases you from having to think for yourself.

Actually, i find it incredibly irritating that someone who knows absolutely nothing about me assumes i do not know what i am talking about. I memorized the entire books of James, 1,2, and 3rd John before i turned 13. My original intent was not to attack christians or their beliefs. I did not come on here to impress anyone.
