It really irks me when someone calls, you answer the phone, and the first thing they say is "Please hold".
I usually just hang up, because that's utter bullshit. Except, just now, I'm at work, so I had to wait while the guy did whatever he had to do before he could talk to me - and then the dink hung up on me while I was holding!

Terroja probably dies a little inside each time you make a joke like that. Under that angry cynical armour he's probably crumbling to pieces.

I can tolerate a few seconds, but sometimes people are just jerks. And they don't play cool music for you to hear while on hold!

Recovering Chris Ian? Everyone I ever met called Chris turned out to be a dick in a minor or major way, every single one.

What in the fuck are you talking about? Did you even read the thread, retard? You don't call up someone, tell them to hold, and then hang up on them. That's not 'doing your job.'

Well, i was assuming that, when the phone rang, it was a recording, a computer that had automatically dialed, and then once answred, asked to hold, then transfered to a rep. I assumed that the call was disconnected in transfere. sssooooorrrryyyy like I said, damn, you guys shouldnt take things so seriously. Geez OH, and its CHIRS‡IAN, my names not chris, its billy. Although im not a dick, i like cock, in a major way.

If it's important, have a real person call me, thank you very much), it was a real guy who obviously had no idea what the fuck he was talking about, asked me to hold, and then hung up with no explanation or apology.

Even still, you shouldnt let it bother you that much, is it going to matter a year from now? Just let things like that go, its not worth wasting your energy on. When things like that really bother someone, then they have power over that person... you shouldnt give anyone power over you

I also dislike a person for no discernable reason sometimes, got a problem with that too, Ghandi?
It's annoying. You disagree? And it's happened a few times this week already, on my cell, my home phone and now here at work. I'm allowed to be irritated - and yes, to answer your question, it will still matter a year from now, if a year from now people are still doing that to me. (Not this particular call, but I'm complaining more about the recurring issue, and using today's numbnuts as my example.)

I dont have a problem with anything, just trying to give some friendly advice. Don't fret, it wont happen again, well, one last thing... There IS a no call list, for both home phones and cell. Put your name on the list, and the calls will stop

I can empathize with you. The other day one of the ladies in our Shipping Dept. called me regarding one of my formulas and asked if I'd help her generate an MSDS for the finished product so it could be shipped internationlly. I pulled the formula up, and was trying to help her generate the MSDS and then she told me to 'hang on' so she could answer her cell phone. Then, she proceeded to have a conversation with her husband about what they were going to do that evening. I hung up on her and figured she didn't need my help that badly after all.

I would have hung up.
If someone doesn't reply to me after I answer, I immediately hang up. Some people sit on the phone and keep saying "hello? Hello? Umm, like, HELLO?" Fuck that. Chances are, the other person on the phone didn't hear you say hello when you answered because their phone recording equipment was initializing after you spoke. Working in accounting, I've seen many different collection practices.

Once last October, some bastard from O2 called me about a free IPod giveaway. I thought 'what the hell, I'm bored anyway' and held the line. Giving some information, etc, and after about half an hour, then the guy asks me for my date of birth.
I was just short of 18 by then, so, needless to say I had wasted the past half hour because you need to be 18 to participate!

Per the thread topic...
I don't listen to open holds and I don't talk to machines. I just hang-up.
After a while those companies will just stop calling you or a person will call.
Also, I don't say a word to telemarketers, I just hang-up.
They never call back.

On another note, a friend of mine told me today that a telemarketer called him last week and asked him to do a quick survey. Which my friend agreed to do, since he was bored. The first question was "What's your email address?" My friend's response?
