In some magazine a month or two ago I found this one pager on Mechanical Animals, kind of a Behind-the-Scenes look at the cover of Mechanical Animals. It is really interesting. I was suprized that I found something in the press about Manson that I didn't already know. I think the magazine was Q, but I'm not quite sure cuz I didn't buy it, I just ripped the one page out and left. *holds out wrist for a slap spanking* I don't know if it has ever been posted before. I'll transcibe some of it, than you guys can let me know if it has already been posted before so I don't waste my time. Or if anyone has the article and a scanner maybe they can just scan it?

Here Goes:

When: February 1998
Where: Quixote Studios, Los Angeles
Why: For the cover of his sci-fi concept album, Marilyn Manson and photographer Joseph Cultice holed up in a Hollywood photo studio for four days without a break. The sleeve saw Manson kitted out as Omega - the album's Ziggy Stardust style central character. "He wanted something androgynous," says Cultice, "Hence the tits."

THE STUDIO
Manson had bought the studio from Batman director Tim Burton a few weeks previously. "There were still props from Mars Attacks! lying around the place," recalls Cultice. "There was a huge car accident outside at one point, and hundreds of cops everywhere. That freaked Manson out."

THE EXTRA FINGER
A nod to the singer's numerous run-ins with Christian groups. "It's a reference to Seraphim [a type of angel]," says Manson. They were said to have six fingers on one hand." While religious types failed to rise to the bait, the extra digit provoked uproar in Japan - it was considered a sign of bad luck, and had to be airbrushed out."

There is also sections on: MANSON'S HIPS, MANSON'S BODY, FALSE BREASTS, NUMEROLOGY, and (some of you will love this) THE CROTCH.

Nothing like people quoting themselves.

Interesting find though.

You're hilarious. Notice I deleted the part that says "Originally posted by..." And technically, I wasn't quoting myself. What I quoted came from the article. Should I transcribe the rest?

Maybe they would have been happier if there was a giant penis down there instead of nothing at all. Just a suggestion.

Target had an alternate, fully clothed picture on the cover?

I thought the same thing. What is so offensive about a genderless lump?

And the alternate fully-clothed cover is the same one that is on the back of the Mechanical Animals inset, linear notes, booklet, whatever you want to call it. You know, the one with him posing all mannequin like in front of the wall with giant thermometers.

Haze, I seem to recall you live in Chicago. Did you catch Zim Zum's The Pop Culture Suicides live show last month?

The one in the 'Burbs??? No...too difficult to get to. You'd be listening to it right now if I had. Hopefully they'll be playin' again soon, 'cause I really liked the two songs they had up on myspace this time last year.

Poop.

Thanks for the scan again, by the way...I miss ALL the good stuff. :(

P.S. I WILL be tryin' to catch John 5 with Zombie in April though.

P.P.S. If you ever see a Shitcago show you're interested in, jus' lemme know...if I can I'll hook you up, man!

THX for posting that bunch of information!
Never thought about Seraphim when I thought about Mansons sixth finger on the MA cover.

So they basically just flipped the booklet over. :D

Who? This thread is almost two years old. Shinya apparently posted the scans but he hasn't posted anything on here since October.
