Lately I've been listening to the following groups:

The Residents - A really amusing group that's been around from the 70s, and writes creepy but charming songs ("Constantinople" is a pretty good one).

The U-Men - A really excellent band that combines the vocals and rythym section of The Birthday Party with the choppy guitar sound and song writing sensibility of Scratch Acid.

Bastro - They sound like they were very influenced by Big Black, with aspects of The Birthday Party's twisted blues sound thrown in as well. They liked playing around with really neat rythyms.

The Jesus Lizard - They sound kind of similar to Bastro, especially the stuff on their first album, Head. Quite a few of their early songs have this really great monstrous sound to them that I absolutely love.

Six Finger Satellite - They sound kind of like Bastro as well, but with these really fun bass and guitar lines that collide and still manage to work.

The Swans - I've mostly been listening to their second album, Cop (which I listened to four times on Friday), and their single "Time Is Money (Bastard)".

Shellac - Steve Albini's current band. I've mostly been listening to "Prayer To God", "The Squirrel Song", and "The Watch Song".
