This is just a niggling at the back of my mind, but why doesn't MM start off 'The Reflecting God' like the version in the album?
In the album, Manson goes 'Your world is an ashtray....', then the bass line starts, but when performed live, the base line starts first...
Any ideas?

Usually the drummer in live concerts does the 1-2-3-4 thing hitting the cymbal or whatever to get the band going.
cos he decided the album version intro was shit, so made it better for live performances.
I love the live version, the John5 screeching guitar, then the band comes in...so sweet.

I don't know. I'm still wondering why he doesn't pick up a guitar or get another guitarist to play all the guitar loops and samples that Pogo triggers from his keyboard.

He did it the album version way for all the Dead To The World Tour. Then for the Mechanical Animals/Rock Is Dead tour he decided he wanted to open with it, so he had to of course link Inaugration of the Mechanical Christ in with the Reflecting God so they obviously added the bit on the start so it diddnt sound bad. I mean the intro is supposed to lead into the next song. After that I suppose Manson just decided it was better that way.

I always hated the album intro. When I first bought the album it took me ages to get past that and into the song, because it just sounded so goofy.
@Arcan: Nice sig. Zorn is the shit.

I love the album version, but the live version far exceeds it.
The song was played at the majority of DTTW dates, and it actually was the album version. He revamped it for the MA/RID Tours, and has used that arrangement for subsequent performances too.

Because live it just sounds better. I mean there's the feedbacking of the keyboard and if it just stopped or something and Manson said "Your world is any ashtray..." It would pull away from the hype that was created in The Inaguaration Of The Mechanical Christ.
Just because it's played a certain way on the album, doesn't mean it's played like that live.

He also used to do Sweet Dreams without an outro. I have a bootleg somewhere as proof... WHO FUCKING CARES!!!
Bands on the caliber of Marilyn Manson experiment on their live performances so they can make the show the best to their ability, make it fun for them and for the crowd.

For AAG, it was without an outro again. ;-)

What bothers me more if the fact he just sings 'SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT MOTHERFUCKER!' for the whole chorus live.

He also never sings the lyrics: "scar/scar/can you feel my power?
One shot and the world gets smaller" He only sings "shoot, shoot motherfucker" till the end...
Actually, they never play that song live anymore as far as I know...Too bad another great song died.

I actually thought it was a good idea to cut the "Sweet Dreams" outro... he's been using the MA/RID arrangements for too long now. The Hell outro was awesome, the God outro was allright but eh... enough of the outros, at least with that song.
And yeah, I don't like how on the GGG Tour, he sings only "shoot, shoot...". The more offensive arrangement was effective on the MA/RID Tours, but he completely abandoned the true lyrics later on.
As for its being performed lately... it was played at a couple AAG shows, actually. Las Vegas and Cincinnatti, if I'm not mistaken.
I think its time is up, anyway. Play something new from ACSS -- and NOT as simply an intro this time! Or, if that song is gonna stay, abandon the MA arrangement and either a.) go back to the original or b.) come up with something new.

Untrue. He's sung that part at numerous shows. Cutting straight the to "shoot, shoot" bit began somewhere towards the end of '96 and was pretty much S.O.P. by the time we rolled over into '97. Even then, he'd still oftentimes sing the "scar, scar" bit for the second refrain after skippin' it the first time 'round.
And he sang the "scar, scar" part at a coupla MA/RID shows, too.
I can't think of a single scar/GGG performance, though.

Cuz nothing is ever the same when live.....that's like asking why doesn't he sound the same in concert as he does on his album?

The way it was preformed on tour for MA sounds cool, but where "Your world is an ashtray" comes in always throws me off.

I was unaware they did it in Cincinnatti. I only heard about the vegas show, although it remained on the setlist throughout that leg of the tour, but not played.
I really wish he did Minute of Decay in full.

I like how the band changes the songs slightly in live performances, keeps things fresh. That being said, I like the live version of Reflecting God, but I do miss the scar/scar refrain from the album.
My favorite live adaption of a song is Posthuman. Oh how I wish the album version sounded as amazing as its live counterpart. :3

OMG! I never heard a live version of the mighty Posthuman... and that it's my most wanted song for a live :( Do you have any bootleg or something where I can hear it, please?
