I will be doing an essay in my English class soon. The assignment is to chose any song and interpret it as a poem. I am very excited about this. I do not know if I could only do one song, so I would like to know three things in your opinions.

1)Deepest Manson song
2)Songs off of ACSS, MA, and HW that best describe the Tryptich.

I wish to do the Tryptich but am not sure if I can with one song, so three may be acceptable.

Tourniquet

The Speed Of Pain and In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death,
Pretty deep going songs, or how ever you say it

i think that there are many songs that hace lots of interpretation material in them, u'l have to decide. but in my opinion those are great:

Man that you fear
Lamb of god
Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis) , just the title gives you allot to say...

or you could use songs that are based on stories, historical events or something like that....

good luck

I did something similar. I used Smashing pumpkins 'Disarm' and put it to Hamlet.

As for your situation, just chose any song that you think can be easily interpreted. Do you have to interpret it and have it relate a specific subject or what?

I recommend either Reflecting God or Tourniquet.

Both delve deeply into the meaning of identity.

Also, I think the last 4 songs of Holywood sort of sum up the Tryptich.

i did that assignment... i used silverchair's "ana's song..." but as for manson songs that you could delve into.... the beautiful people, tourniquet, the reflecting god, great big white world, mechanical animals, disassoicative, speed of pain, fundamentally loathesome, target audience, cruci-fiction in space, and burning flag... these are some of my personal favorites for analysis but of course most of manson's songs have meanings to unfold... good luck with the assignment... by the way joe are you from portland, and if so what school?

KrazzyJoe
09-07-2003, 08:45 AM
The Beautifull people? Yeah, thats deep. The rest are good choices though.

I always found Man that you Fear and Coma Black to be his deepest songs...and i think that the Coma's and the last quarter of Holywood sum up the Tryptich well

09-07-2003, 11:15 AM
hey hey hey now... no hatred upon the beautiful people... besides a girl in my class did that song for this assignment and it was really good...

KrazzyJoe
09-07-2003, 11:38 AM
Well, tis a good somg, not much interpreting to be done though.

dishonest_angel
09-07-2003, 11:43 AM
you gotta remember that some of the people you'll be presenting to don't listen to manson, nor would they be able to see what's plainly there to you and I... now you never answered my question... are you from portland and if so what high school do you go to?

KrazzyJoe
09-07-2003, 12:12 PM
Good point. No, I do not live in Portland, I go to Tillamook High School(go mooks!). Joking, of course, it's a shitty school for a shitty town.

Nothing he's done has had that soul-depth of someone like Johnny Cash, Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen but he has a stronger intellect than any of those guys and a more abstract worldview so when he does become the sage it will be really impressive.

06-19-2005, 04:29 AM
I dont know...but:
Lamb of God with its attack on the media for glorifying death, Coma White because it gets to me everytime i listen to it, Coma Black, Kinderfeld since that seems to be the only song where Manson decides to sing about his grampa, and Man that You Fear because its just deep.

A relatively simple but sufficient one would be The Beautiful People. Basic Manson profile, I could help you with that one if you want.

Manson and Willy Wonka go way back, he talks a lot about that in The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell. He's gonna be pissed about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory because ecause Johnny Depp beat him to the role (which is too bad, really, I would have LOVED to see MM play that.)

COMA BLACK!!!!!!!!! (that one really gets me)

Actually, Johnny Depp said that he'd let Manson play the role if he wanted it, but Manson refused it.

Hmmm. I've always loved the Minute Of Decay. I feel connected to it in some criss-cross-type way that only it can provide. So the deepest song is-and always will be- Minute Of Decay! YAY!!!

you can't really do a thread like this....it's like asking with is your deepest moment....all mansons songs are deppest, but in diffrent ways in diffrent situations.

But in my opinion is (s)AINT the most personal song he's done so far....

Velvet Vamp

Man that You Fear - the chorus alone wins it the position, but there's something to Minute of Decay. And Speed of Pain is deep but I'm not sure how much there's there to analyse... but it's all so personal isn't it? Anything can contain a deep significance if you look hard enough.

Hmm. Maybe "Man That You Fear" (this song has always been a personal one for me) "Coma White" and "Target Audience". Perhaps "Kinderfeld".

I had do an assignment similar to this. I had to pick a cd that told a story, and I picked Mechanical Animals. I figured it would be the easiest for non-fans to relate to since it's a little more pop-ish. It was one of my favorite projects.

ACSS- I would say either Man That You Fear or Minute of Decay.
MA- Great Big White World
HW- Target Audience or King Kill

A good variety of songs will be the best if you are having a bunch of non-fans as your critics. Plus www.songmeanings.net is a good site to get some opinions on the meanings of the songs.

Example by "Sar": The song Great Big White World describes Manson as a spaceman, looking down on Earth, and seeing a revolting and depressing sight which is our destroyed world. Everyone is mechanical, self-destructive and hollow. And instead of doing something about it, they wait for God to do something about it. Instead of making the world a better place, they pray just like insects to God to make it better, and all the while the world is just dying. By saying 'I'm not attached to your world' Manson is also saying he feels alienated from everyone and everything aorund him, and that he doesn't want to take part in the murder of this planet any longer. Moving further along, by saying 'It's a great big white world, we are drained of our colors' he's calling the world fake, lifeless, ugly and empty.

Plus angelynx's site has always had nice Manson interpretations, especially concerning the tryptich.

In my opinion, it's no contest that Holy Wood has his deepest songs as far as meaningful lyrics go. It's just a question of which song on that album has the most depth. In my opinion, it's either "The Nobodies", "The Love Song", or "Target Audeince". "In The Shadow of the Valley of Death" is very deep in its own, more personal way as well.

we had to do that assighment at school, i did coma white because its my favorite song, people who know me cant believe i listen to marilyn manson, im probably the last person theyd expect, but i think after my presentation they understood why i do listen to him, a little bit better.

Same here. Coma White is my favorite song and people who know me can't believe I listen to Marilyn Manson. I did an assignment at school last year and it shocked my teacher that I even listened to metal.

come on, dissasociative is probably the slowest/saddest/ most meaningful song ever. i was reading an interview, and he told the guy that he wrote that song right after he came off special K for the first time. about how he felt disconnected with the world. so yeah that song always meant something to me

Holy Wood's "Lamb of God" seems the most meaningful to me. There's something about his slow, grating wail of
"Nothing's gonna change the world"
That really strikes an emotional chord. I think the sentiment is extremely applicable to our modern world.

to me it would have to be coma white and the man that you fear. the man that you fear i found disturbing for some reason, the video was beyond sad. great but sad. coma white fits into a certain point in my life and was easy to connect to for me

yeah the first time i saw man that you fear video, i cried...but that was before i even knew anything about marilyn manson, and thats basically how i got into it. my friend mesa had the lest we forget with bonus DVD and she told me to watch the videos, so i just decided to drink a little bacardie and watch it...so i did and i was definately never the same.

going along with school projects, i did my 8th grade "exit project" on marilyn manson, and i showed the clip of his interview in bowling for columbine, and i got 90 out of 100 for it...my teacher hated me listening to mm anyways...but i think she began to understand at the end. how i spoke with such reverance, a light shining upon my face that she had never seen. the rest of the class noticed as well, and i never got in fights with anyone in that class over marilyn manson again...

I did that same assignment. Being a stupid freshman, I picked a song with no lyrics. Somehow i passed...anyway, i'd go with cake and sodomy. Just look at the part in Long Hard Road Out Of Hell where he talks about it, there's actually more to it than the blatant obscenity. And that way, even if you write a shitty essay and fail the assignment, you'll at least get to piss off your classmates/teacher...i'm sure they'll enjoy that. Anyhow, i'd say that just about anything from MA would be good. The other two Tryptic ones are chuck full of good ones, two, and, honestly, I think Portrait has some very deep songs, although everyone will argue with this. Dogma, Sweet Tooth, Wrapped in Plastic...I read a very good one on Get Your Gunn. Hope that was helpful.
