Let's talk about bands that you absolutely cannot stand.

Not bands like Good Charlotte or Creed, but critically acclaimed, influential bands. Bands that you feel like maybe you should like, or at least appreciate.

Who are they? What about them rubs you the wrong way?

slipknot.

their whole mask matching clothes stuff gets to me. i dont like it.

slipknot is amazing though. flat out. there are 9 guys in that band, and like one of them said in an interview, "theres 9 of us, its NOT supposed to work." for anyone thats ever been in a band, its hard enough with 4-5 people..let alone 9, and to produce music that they do, is amazing.

i cant lie though, slipknot has grown on me. i like some of thier songs, and what they stand for, but i hate thier apperance. the only time ive seen them live, was on second stage at ozzfest, and they tore it the fuck up. ozzfest isnt really a place for a band to showcase thier stage talent, because they have such short sets and set changes, but when you factor that into slipknots show, they were amazing.

i still hate the masks, though..

Bands I don't like that are very influentel are a lot of classic rock bands.... i.e.

The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin

I was never interested in the whole "classic rock" genre. I don't see why it's so highly loved by everyone, I mean are people afraid to try and move into the future and move on from that???

There's never gonna be bands like that ever again, so quit crying all music now-a-days sucks and just pack your bags and fucking move on

Linkin Park....
Don't know why...some of their songs are actually cool enough, but maybe it's just their geeky/techno look that I don't like....
Maybe also the fact that some of the people I know who listens to Britney Spears and stuff like that enjoy them.....
But then again they also enjoy some of Manson's latest song....
Kinda confused now...?!?

A couple other bands. The Beatles, and Judas Priest. The only JP album i've ever enjoyed was Painkiller, everything besides that is shit to my ears. And The Beatles, well, I guess i've never been able to get them, or something. Just boring.

Halford has a good voice for metal, but knowing he's a butt pirate kinda kills it for me.

Well at first he was. Remember he threatened to hurt someone for saying his real name in the paper???

I mean ever since Murderdolls and Stone Sour came out it just doesn't seem to be such a big deal.

I mean they're a part of the stage show just like Manson is with makeup and stage props and like Kiss

What's wrong with Alice In Chains besides the fact that it makes me depressed as hell and want to do pills/coke?

Also, why are you posting the name if you're not going to bother supplying an explanation? I guess filling your post count matters.
Everyone hates Creed... and Limp Bizkit... it's a given.

Like Prozzak or the Rednex... nobody likes 'em but you don't hate to write it because it's so common to hate them.

As for myself :

-Linkin Park (explanation : just listen to them)
-Eminem (except his first LP)
-The Beatles (I don't really hate them, I simply find them vastly overated... I don't care if they were groundbreaking like most fans say they were, being first doesn't mean you're the best unless you're doing the 100 metre dash)
-Aerosmith (I like one of their songs but hate almost every other facet of this band... Mostly Steven Tyler... I hate that ass...)
-about 90% of rap artists who are famous. (I am bored of the mindless appraisal of money worship, image and whatever unimportant shit these fuckers "sing" about... some are good though... like Jurassic 5)

NON INFLUENCAL LIST
-StainD (Besides two of their songs, I don't like these guys)
-P.O.D. (I get P.O'd whenever I hear 'em... )
-Jet (Because my roommate and her limey boyfriend always talk about them and they're not that good...)
-The Datsuns (Same reason as above)
-Coheed and Cambria (Quite possibly one of the most irritating voices I've ever heard)
-Nickelback (Their first album wasn't so bad... lyrically speaking, then they got too general and clichéd but I'd probably like them more if they remained an indie band... far too overplayed)
-Three Days Grace (They just suck...)

I've recently come to be able to tolerate some slipknot. Not all of it though.

Van Halen. Boring music, boring lyrics, boring everything. Eddie is a great player but I don't think he can compose good music, although I like a couple of songs, one of them being Panama. All those mellow lyrics talking about love, happiness, friendship, etc really put me off, when it's treated in such a stupid and superficial way.

Eddie Van Halen may very well be one of the best guitar players ever, but his music doesn't interest me, something that does not happen with other great guitar players like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Hendrix and even John 5.

Ok, I think I get the point of the thread Skol6, so here is my list:

I only really detest one band, System of a Down. His voice grates on my last nerve. And the drum beats are way to fast and I get overwhelmed. Every time I am dragged to one of their shows I get this urge to kill everyone around me, especially the person who dragged me there! I think there is some kind of frequency in their songs that actually hurt my ears. Just like the sound of nails down the chalkboard.

So, in conclusion...
I hate System of a Down

I really think Nirvana is overrated. Were they infuential, yes. Were they great, good god no! And while we're at it, lemme just take a big ass dump on Def Leppard.

And, for shock's sake, I'll say the Beatles. They were better when they were apart.

Let's see... Influental...

Matallica:

IMO, they just fuckin suck. plain and simple. While they release songs I enjoy every once in a blue baboon... most of their songs are just heavy guitar strums with dull melodies. And the singer is always going "ahhh!" at the end of each word. "cuse your unforgiven tooooowahhh!" "It aint by biiiiitchahhh!" It's okay once in a while but FUCK! These fuckers do it all the time! And before their songs have the decency to finaly end, they go off in to this long-ass solo, that goes nowhere. Oh yeah, and that whole thing with their shit all sucking after the black album... I don't go for that. ALL of their shit sucks. Old and new.

Sublime:

I have run into many who gasp at my opinion on these people... Well sorry folks, but they just get on my nerves. I can see how they are a good band, and some of their lyrics are deep...and some of the melodies are nice to hear... But I can only stand that boring-ass regae, sit down and smoke a joint, throw in some trumpets, Bullshit for so long. At work I knew a kid who liked sublime and I would have to listen to an entire CD 3 times in a row when in fact, I can only go through half of it. I just don't see what's so great about them. the music just keeps the same speed, the same tone, the same ragae "glink" in the background... after an hour I want to smash the fucking radio.

I hate Radiohead.

Or rather, I have come to hate Radiohead.

I used to think they were a great band. I still very much enjoy The Bends. However, since Kid A, my patience with the band has all but evaporated. I didn't think Kid A was a bad album. I own it, and I listen to it occasionally. It was more about the perception of the album as being incredibly original, intensely groundbreaking, and all the bullshit that went with it. Dude, Brian Eno was there 30 years ago.
Since then, it's hard to shake that crown that the music media has given them of being the most important band in the world, which I find to be lame. Not that Radiohead created this title for themselves, but they certainly haven't done much to dismiss it.

Nirvana and the Clash -

Both are ultra-hip to published rock critics, both are considered hugely influencial in their genres, but both to me are tremendously overrated and I hate them.

When I think of the Clash (I know, London Calling was a good song - whatever) I think of Rock the Casbah and Should I Stay or Should I Go - two MTV favorites that have always been on my nerves. I also consider them a very "safe" early punk band and therefore easily accessible to the rock critic who doesn't know anything.

Moving on to Nirvana - almost the exact same thing. Now I'll be the first to admit that the one good thing to come out of grunge is the fact that pop music was better because of them. We wouldn't have crappy-alt-strum rock without it! But as someone who liked 80's punk in the 80's, I thought Nirvana was tremendously overrated and I actually loathe Nevermind.

I am a huge Bowie fan. I own more than 80 bowie cds. I spent a lot of money I didn't have seeing him twice on his last tour. I even own the Serious Moonlight tour video.

But because of that, I think I'm entitled to say negative things about him.

For example: MR. BOWIE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LABYRINTH, EVERYTHING YOU RECORDED BETWEEN 1983 AND 1993 WAS CRAP.

Why do you sit around defending different bands? Let people hate who they hate without someone questioning it. You are just going off topic by posting stuff like that.

Bands I hate:
1.) The Beatles
2.) Aerosmith
3.) Disturbed (not really sure how influential they are though)

The Beatles-I have no real explantion for it i just don't care for it.
Aerosmith-I only care for one or two of there songs but after awhile Steve Tylers voice is annoying to me.
Def Lepoard (don't know if they were influence on anything)-don't know why but they always make me wanna vomit i feel like screaming if i hear Pour Some Sugar On Me.
Scoprions-I FUCKING HATE THAT SONG ROCK YOU LIKE HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (same thing as def lepoard on the influence thing)
Guns 'N' Roses-which is odd cuz i love avenged sevenfold which is strong Guns 'N' Roses influence but i just can't stand Guns 'N' Roses if i hear one of there songs i change the radio or ask the person to change it.

Note: I know some of these aren't really influences but i really just had to express how much i hate them.

I like some of the stuff by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, and I absolutely love The Beatles, but all three of them are overrated like fuck and not all that special, so I kind of dislike them in that regard I guess. In my opinion, there was A LOT of much more innovative music going on at the time, like...pretty much anything from The Velvets to AMM.

With that out of the way, I really dislike or at least don't care for: the Stones, the Who, Metallica, Judas Priest, Brian Eno (his non-ambient stuff), Sonic Youth's more popular stuff, Queen, Radiohead, and others...but I'll stop there.

There are loads of generally well-liked bands that have just never grown on me: AD/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, almost anything Metallica released after 1988, The Who, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Elvis Presley. slipknot is amazing though. flat out. there are 9 guys in that band, and like one of them said in an interview, "theres 9 of us, its NOT supposed to work." for anyone thats ever been in a band, its hard enough with 4-5 people..let alone 9, and to produce music that they do, is amazing.

i cant lie though, slipknot has grown on me. i like some of thier songs, and what they stand for, but i hate thier apperance. the only time ive seen them live, was on second stage at ozzfest, and they tore it the fuck up. ozzfest isnt really a place for a band to showcase thier stage talent, because they have such short sets and set changes, but when you factor that into slipknots show, they were amazing.

i still hate the masks, though.. I'd have to aree on the mask thing.

The Sex Pistols- I just never really got into them.
AC/DC- Once again, I ended up liking only one song.
Peal Jam- Only liked "Jeremy".
Coldplay- I usually like piano, but I just think they sound a tad bland. I can't stand any of their stuff, it just grates on my nerves.
Slipknot- Just meh. I liked "Purity" and "Vermillion prt.2".

See, most of the bands I dislike, I tend to only like one or two songs, and thats it.

Ignore Maug, he thinks Blink is punk. I greatly agree with you as well. They're all extremely talented I think, and I have alot of admiration for their earlier work. I find it funny though, the music they made off drugs is less coherent and relevant than the music they did while high.

Yeah, I agree. The earlier work was the best, although I do hold 'By The Way' in high regard. Song's like 'Minor Thing' & 'Venice Queen' are among the purest example of thier genius.

'Stadium Arcadium' is still in it's early stages of listening / growing for me, but so far I have found it to be rather anti-climactical.

Well the doors are a little boring, maybe 1 or two good songs. And Bowie is a little ovverrated on this forum (I'm saying it even though I like his music). Everybody that likes Manson just has to say Bowie rocks even if they haven't even heard any song by him.

Cradle Of Filth- I don't know why, but his voice sounds like somebody stepped on a cat's tail when he sings or like a crying baby thrown onto a fire.

Hootie And The Blowfish- need I say more??

... that's all I can think of right now.

Must be critically acclaimed?

Definitely U2, I gave Joshua Tree a few listens and tried to have an open mind, forget about Bono and his bullshit and just appreciate the music, but no. Just no. I just don't get it.

Metallica, another one I've attempted to understand the appeal of numerous times. But the more I listen to them, the more I dislike them so I've just given up. The file sharing thing has pushed me to hate them as opposed to confused indifference.

Guns 'n' Roses, I liked them for a while... when I was 14.

Timbaland, his solo album may be found unanimously mediocre but he gets a lot of praise for the shit he produces. I'm so tired of his style. I thought the first few hits he was involved in were fine but it's become apparent there's absolutely nothing fun or edgy about him. He does the same things with everything he touches.

Elton John, I don't hate him. I don't like him either. Just another name that comes to mind when I think of music that is widely appreciated or liked and I'm baffled by it.

Pearl Jam- have hated them ever since their first album came out.

Dave Matthews Band- cheesy music with fans who love to get stoned and absolutely adore them.

Red Hot Chili Peppers- Just annoying music to me.

The Darkness- as someone posted earlier- just looking at the lead singer makes me want to vomit.

Alice in Chains- THeir music never was that interesting and he is dead, get over it.

I haven't gotten around to hating any bands. My schedule has been very hectic lately. Could somebody give me some recommendations? I’d really like to hate a band touted as godly, like Pink Floyd. However, I’d settle for hating something just barely tolerable, like Maroon 5. What are their absolute worst songs? Could you tell me unsavory details about the band members’ private lives? I’m severely lacking in pure, vitriolic hatred right now.

The Darkness-doing what freddy mercury did better in the 80s

Smashing pumpkins-any reason you can think of off the top of your head is probably valid

Disturbed-more disappointed really

Van Halen

AC DC-Sorry King but like Disturbed all their songs sound the same

Kiss-just never got into them

With the notable exception of the white stripes all those other "The" Bands that showed up during that garage rock revival period

Hm. Influential?
Johnny Cash - I just cannot stand him and his music.
Kiss - Don't hate them, persay, just don't like 'em either.
U2 - I don't like the music. It annoys me to the greatest degree.
Sublime - I find them boring. I mean, some of their songs are alright, but on the whole, I can live without them.

I'm not even really sure how influential the bands I listed were, but every other band I hate isn't influential in the least.

She Wants Revenge - Worst band I have ever heard in my fucking life. Not only could a 6th grade Weezer cover band kick the shit out of them live, but they could probably dress better, too. Biggest tools in the indie-electro toolbox. I honestly feel sorry for anyone else who has seen them live. I tried handing them a rubber tourniquet to stop the bleeding, but singer tool misappropriated the nature of my symbolic insult, tied it around his wrist, and started singing about how he wasn't "indie enough."

Nirvana never did that much for me, though I'd be the first to admit that they were very influential during their hayday. I wouldn't classify it as a hatred, but rather a misunderstanding.

U2 became annoying as soon as Bono turned the band into this huge fuckin' political fiasco. One could argue that they were very political from the get-go, and I'd agree to an extent, but I didn't begin to harbor negative sentiments for them until these political views were spewed in every interview post 1990. However, I'll give credit where it is due..."October," "War," and "The Joshua Tree" are fuckin' outstanding!

Bands that I could honestly say I "hate" would be Chicago, ABBA, and the Bee Gees and there really isn't anything particular about them that contributes to this hatred, except their sound. Oh, and The White Stripes.

The Darkness - Gayest band ever.
My Chemical Romance - Need I say more?
Nirvana - Play them all the time over here.
Sublime - See above.
Rage Against the Machine - See above.
Foo Fighters - See above, and overrated.
Deftones - Never got into them, but I saw them live and they straight out blew donkey dick.
Pitbull Daycare - Oh how horrible it was for them to open for Nocturne, Dope, and Mushroomhead.
The Doors - Don't understand the whole situation on how, or why, they are liked.
Led Zeppelin - One or two good songs, but meh.
S.T.U.N. - They're still embedded in my memory for doring a horrible version of Another Brick in the Wall. -_-
Pearl Jam - Heard better.

pantera- mostly i just hate phil ansalmo, he tries too hard to be like henry rollins, like "look at my serious face, i are serious hardcore person". and have you ever heard him talk in an interview? whats wrong with his voice? i bet he'd only smile if he was making fag jokes about you.
ummm... thats all i can think of for now.

Seriously? If anything, Henry Rollins is nowhere near as hard-sounding as Phil. I dislike Phil as a person, mainly because the heroin addiction....but I totally respect most of what Pantera has done. Sad they had to split up, and sad that DD was killed.

^^I completely agree. I mean people just don't realize that without the older bands, your favorite "artists" probably wouldn't be inspired to go out and do their thing. I mean how can someone say they hate bowie and and be here on a Manson forum? Have you not seen behind the music where Manson was so turned on after he saw the "Ashes to Ashes" music video? I mean If you don't like Led Zeppelin at least respect them because they revolutionized rock and made it what it is today by simply taking old blues riffs and adding crunch to it. Damn! Climb outta your gothic gutters and appreciate the roots!

Nickelback. I'm a fair weather fan at best, and after the like... 80th hit off of All the Right Reasons, I have pretty much determined that they sold out.

EDIT: And ICP. If they couldn't suck enough, I wound up liking a friend, who was a complete fan girl, and we had a bad fallout.

^^^Private_Asylu_M, I don't. I pretty much realize that without bands like The Doors, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Metalllica etc. Marilyn Manson wouldn't be the same. These bands played their role in the past, played it for Marilyn Manson but never played it for me personally. Marilyn Manson can like/be influenced by what/whoever they want but I don't see how this automatically makes me to like Motley Crue, for example.
Furthermore, I really hate some of these bands but in the same time can be on this forum and adore Marilyn Manson.

All you people putting down The Beatles should be stabbed with thumbtacks until dead.

Agreed. I pretty much hate all the emo bullshit bands like Boys Like Girls. The only ones I can really stand are Hellgoodbye and The Used (if you count them as emo. They're actually one of my favorite bands.). And I really dislike all self-labeled Riot Grrrl bands ASIDE of Bratmobile and Bikini Kill. Let's see, what else ... Led Zeppelin, oh GOD. Don't even get me started on that shit. Creed fucking sucks ... Opeth, Lamb of God, some Lacuna Coil, COHEED AND FUCKING CAMBRIA, The Cure, The Darkness, most Slipknot, MCR, Linkin Park, the Foo Fighters, Pink Floyd (I remember there was a time where I was total fan of them, I still have my Pink Floyd PJs. EUGH.), et al.

I really dislike a lot of bands, to be honest. My favorites, though, mos def have to be: Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Tribe 8, Sixpence None the Richer, The Used and OTEP. <3.

I won't deny their overall contribution/impact/influence on music and culture, but i can't like them. It's almost the same with Bob Dylan. I don't hate them though.
